The Second Round: 18 Hole Four-Ball Stroke Play Qualifying

The second day of qualifying competition for the 2012 World Club Championship at Diamante Cabo San Lucas, Mexico was an 18 hole four-ball stroke play with the four top winners becoming the semifinalists for the Match Play Competition.

Defending Champions Durban Country Club of South Africa, Ryan Birnie and Sean Fenger, fired off a blistering 9 under par with a 63. They eagled hole #6, and were 5 under par par 5's including the eagle at hole # 6.

Seminole Golf Club, USA with the steady play of the veteran team and past champions David Abell and Kelly Miller, shot 6 under to finish 9 under and earn a top 4 spot for Match Play.

Winged Foot, USA shot 4 under 68 and finished 7 under. But St. George's of Canada got to 8 under after 2 birdies but bogied hole #17 and missed a birdie at 18 to tie with Winged Foot.

Portmarnock fired another solid round shooting 9 under 63 to finish with a blistering total of 16 under, 5 shots ahead of 2nd place.

The playoff between Winged Foot and St. George's began on Hole #15 with best ball format. It was halved and onto hole #16 where the rules were aggregate score. All made par. At hole #17, St. George's made par and a bogey and Winged Foot made a par and a triple bogey. St. George's won and moved into the semifinals of Match Play.

Match Play set Seminole against Durban and St. George's against Portmarnock. Matches were called for darkness with Seminole 5 UP after 13 holes and St. George's 4 UP after 12 holes. Play resumes at 7:45 AM PST.

Today's results for the second round of qualifying follow. It is an aggregate score combining both rounds. The top four teams advanced into the semifinals of Match Play.
